With the rise in gun violence, Roxanne introduced legislation to prohibit the sale of ammunition - regardless of the type - to any person not authorized to possess a weapon. While a strong supporters of legal gun ownership and the rights of New York State's "hunting communities," she also favors limiting the sale of ammunition designed for use in assault weapons. However, she noted that New York City and State does not have an assault weapon problem but an illegal weapons problem that is a major challenged for law enforcement in New York City and the borough of Brooklyn. 

Purposed Legislation: To limit the sale of ammunition to any person not authorized to possess such weapons, regardless of type; thus keeping ammunition out of the hands of unlicensed users and to prevent illegal trafficking.  As well as limiting the sale of ammunition designed for use in assault weapons; to keep assault weapons ammunition out of the hands of unlicensed users in and effort to prevent illegal trafficking of ammunition. Senator Persaud understand the urgency and importance to keep illegal guns out of the hands of criminals and gangs. In New York State law enforcement agencies recovered 52,915 firearms between 2010-2015. In 2015 alone, New York recovered 7,827 guns.
